In our Raku Pottery Workshop, you’ll have the chance to fire your own raku pottery at our raku workshop experience. Designed for those interested in creating unique, handcrafted raku pottery, this workshop combines creativity and technique for stunning results.

Overview
In our Raku Pottery Workshop, you’ll have the chance to choose from a range of pottery pieces to glaze and fire. Once glazed and dry the group will get to put their pieces into the kiln and then once they reach maturity you will get to pull the glowing hot pot out of the kiln and place them into their reduction chambers. There they will be transformed into beautiful pottery that have a range of color and finishes. After they cool you will clean each piece and then get to take them home after your done. If glaze doesn’t sound like your style then we have a variety of materials to use for melting to the outside of the glowing surface.
What You’ll Experience
During the raku workshop, you’ll explore ceramic techniques, including:
- Raku History: Learn about the tradition of Raku pottery and where it came from.
- Raku Glazing: Explore a variety of decorative glazes and how to apply them to your potteries surface.
- Kiln Firing: The workshop will demonstrate the firing process and then you will get the experience of pulling your pottery and putting it into the reduction chambers.
- Cleaning & Finishing: After the pottery has cooled and can be handled the group will get to clean their potteries surface.
Workshop Schedule
- Glazing and History: Applying the glaze to the pottery chosen for firing (1-2 hours).
- Snack Break: After glazing the pottery needs to dry before being fire. At this time there will be an hour break for a snack.
- Raku Kiln Firing: Two people will get the chance to fire their pieces at a time depending on size of the pieces (2-3 hours).
Each firing will bring out the colorful lusters and finishes of the different raku glazes.
Who This Workshop is For
This Raku Pottery Workshop is perfect for beginners as well as experienced ceramic artists who want to try something new. No previous experience is required, and all materials are provided.
Location and Pricing
Held at our studio in Southeast Michigan, this workshop is easy to access for those in the Toledo and Ann Arbor areas. Pricing for the raku workshop is $65, and covers entry, glaze, and firings.
*Different styles and types of pottery will be available in a variety of price points to choose from. The pottery is all made from raku clay formulated to handle the thermal shock of the raku firing process. Price is determined by the size, complexity, and decoration of the different pieces, ranging from $25-$85 per piece.
